Movement should bring joy. Movement should bring freedom. Movement should be accessible though all of life's challenges.

Tora's Approach to Pilates

Finding the right Pilates instructor is like finding the right hairdresser. You want someone whose philosophy and training can help you achieve your specific goals, so that you come out feeling and looking your best. My approach to teaching Pilates is adaptable and has benefited both young athletes and older people with little movement experience.

I've been taking Pilates since the early 00s (yes, that's most of my life!), and have seen first hand how Pilates can change lives through improved mind-body connection, enhancing athletic performance, and complementing injury rehabilitation. When I did my teacher training in 2019, I chose to study with BASI because of the school's respect for Joe Pilates's original work while integrating modern scientific research. Now, my session planning incorporates identifying and reviewing resources that align with my students' goals. My prior work experience as a research manager and director helps ensure that I rely on high-calibre sources.

My teaching style focuses on activation of deep local stabilizing muscles and breathwork for enhancing mind-body integration. I've commonly worked with people living with scoliosis, knee pain, and back pain -- among others. I strive for my sessions to fulfill Joe Pilates's vision that Contrology (what he called Pilates) "is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit."
